Serendipity Once Again

After my talk at the University, I was standing in the lobby, and a burly man in his late 60s or early 70s came to me, grabbed me with a big bear hug, and said, “You saved my life, and I know what to do now. Those four weapons are my answer. I’m in therapy, and it has not helped me from considering suicide.” Again, he grabbed me, hugged me, turned, and left before I could speak. It is why I Label this Essay “Serendipity.” From chaos often comes good things. Wow!

Being old and getting older each day is not new to me, but of course, it has been my personal experience for about six years. I am not the person I was, but I have adapted to what I can do nothing about except, that is, to live each day as it is given to me. I think and try Io do that.  Frankly, I have a choice I can do nothing and wait to die or be as creative and productive as possible. I have never waited for anything except when I play the pawn, In school, the service, etc. But when in control of my life, I filled it up with challenges and mountains to climb.

Failure and success are not uncommon to me. Having experienced both, I much prefer success, which is why I refuse to wait to die, and to keep trying hard to continue my journey as an author, maybe to lecture occasionally, and to contribute in ways I am able to.

I am writing my 4th book about extraordinary people I have worked with, more on power, leadership, dialogue, and rediscovering one’s voice. At the same time (when the opportunity presents itself), I am also writing my 5th book, which is about Aging.

There is a vast difference between the two books. The 4th is about what I know as a student, teacher, and practitioner. These are subjects I know well. The 5th book is what I am presently in the middle of, so my thoughts, assumptions, and opinions play a huge part in this work.

I need to think, work—I need to be with Lenette—Time my enemy

Sy leased and operated a summer day camp in LA. He and his wife then purchased virgin wilderness land in Northern CA, where they built and operated a coed summer camp. This led Sy to lecture on how to train staff and the creating of community within the workplace. He has lectured throughout the United States, has been interviewed by the media and has appeared on many radio and TV talk shows
